Dr. Velez-Leon wanted to be a veterinarian from as early as she can remember. Growing up she would help her dad, who was a Boxer breeder, with the parturitions and puppy care. On her free days from school, she would go with her dad to his job at the undergrad, where she would go to the anatomy lab and learn about the different parts of the human body and compare it with the animal body, which helped her interest in Veterinary Medicine grow.
She earned her DVM degree from the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine, where her love/passion for animals grew even more. During her years at Vet School, she formed part of different clubs like the “Surgery Club”, “Equine Club”, “Internal Medicine Club”, “Food Animal Club”, among others. Her interests in VetMed include surgery and ER.
She has participated in a couple of Mission Trips to Honduras with Christian Veterinary Missions. During these, she performed spays/neuters/castrations, vaccinations, and deworming along with other veterinarians, to both small and large animals in rural areas of Honduras where families don’t have the access or the means to acquire proper veterinary care for their pets. In her spare time, she enjoys going to the gym, exploring the outdoors, discovering new places, reading, baking, watching k-dramas, and more.
